What would you do?

I love my sister in law, and we are pretty close.  A couple of months ago, I told her, "Please don't worry about getting us a present.  Let's just get for the kids."  Maybe I wasn't clear about not wanting to exchange adult gifts with her and her husband, but we just received a package from her.  I feel like if we buy for her, then we should by for DH's brother, with whom we also talked about not exchanging adult gifts.  Crap.

She is a sweet person; should I go online and try to scramble and find something to send her in time for Christmas?  (We live across the country from each other.)This is embarrassing.

The same thing happened to us.  Colin just went out today to buy gift certificates for the spa for all the women and remote control cars (don't ask lol) for all the men that we had thought we were not exchanging gifts with and found out yesterday had all got stuff for us.  So, I guess I would say that yes, I would scramble to get something lol.  If she lives across country I'd probably order a gift basket or flower arrangement or something that'll deliver in her area.

As for DH's brother, is he part of the same family as she is?  If he is; then I'd get him the same thing as her.  If he is not; I wouldn't embarrass him by getting him a gift when he thinks you're not exchanging.

I wouldn't.  Cheesy  Seriously, this will be the second or third year we've put out there that we'll only be buying gifts for the kids in the family, not the adults.  However, as it turns out, my sil found a great deal on a new TV for my fil so we chipped in on that with her and I also found something special for my mom and my mil having to do with the grand kids so they'll be getting something.  These things weren't planned they just happened but we did not buy for our siblings or any other family member.

Well, I just went on Brookstone's website and ordered some flameless candles that should be there in time for Christmas.  I feel so lame.  Next year, we'll just say f-it and buy for everyone and their uncles.

i'd probably do what you did and find something like a gift basket that would ship...but I've already informed my inlaws that unless we draw names or something we are not buying for any grown ups next year. With three kids we simply don't have the funds anymore.
