Spin off name thread:

Are there names that you love, that you can't use because of bad associations from your past?

So for example, I love Cecilia. She is the patron saint of musicians, has a beautiful classical ring to it. But one of my most obnoxious high school classmates and the evil mother of my ex-fiance were both named Cecilia, so I don't think I could ever use it.

Same thing with Jonathan. Nice classical name, but my irritating brother in law and one of my ex boy friends had that name, so it is completely out.

This is all of course completely theoretical, unless the adoption fairy leaves a baby in a basket on the doorstep. But I do find names fascinating...

Tonnes of them.  But they all seem to be on Colin's side lol.  I probably would never name a baby most of the names of people I was close to either past or present because I hate feeling like I'm naming after someone, but that's for good associations too.  Colin has no problem using the name of someone he likes, he just doesn't like many people lol.

Ooooh great topic!

While I cannot go into specifics, I will say that I have had students who have been such a nightmare/annoying/poorly behaved, etc. that I could never imagine giving their name to my baby.

oooo I bet fruity.  That would narrow the name pool considerably.  Would you name a baby the name of a current student if it was a student you liked?

Absolutely!  Avery was on my girl list because I had a kid in class who was an absolute sweetheart named Avery, plus I loved the name.

Some students were so awesome (Mary, Diego, Dane, Matilda - I'm talking about you guys. You rocked) that I would totally name kids after them.

Some of them...whooo boy. Not only would I not name a kid after them, but I might just go and hunt down all the owners of those names just to be sure.

And based on some of my cub scouts, there are some names that will never, ever be uttered by me again, if I can avoid it.

we BOTH loved xavier and or xander (lets face it, my husband just wanted a lil boy he could call 'x')

however (ahem) My FIL's favorite brother had this best friend. that best friend was sleeping with hubbies uncle's wife (following?) hubbies uncle found out about it, and proceeded to put a bullet through his own head with FIL on the phone  Cry hence why that name, or any association to that name (xavier, specifically, or the nickname "x") is completely out of the question.

I love the name Christopher, think it's a lovely classic name. Ain't happening... my ex was a Christopher so it's a no go.

We've opted against any and ALL family names that are from the last FIVE generations because our mother's are a pita...other than our own (for instance, this baby will be named after ME.)

I LOVED Cecilia (and fought hard for it) as it is a beautiful name and also was my patron saint when I was confirmed in the church in HS... hubs knew "this ho" from HS named that so it was out (eye fucking ROLL)

seems there are ALWAYS reasons to not name a kid something...

See, every guy I knew in high school was named Michael. No joke - I had SIX Michaels in my group of friends. So even though I tended to hang out with a lot of guys, it's not like a lot of names got used up...

I always liked the name Carla, but now it's my husband's ex-wife.
Also Ruben is the name I wanted to give a boy but apparently  a Ruben treated my husband badly when he was a child, so that's a no go either.
