Oh believe me, I am right there with you. I think that's the problem. Those twits SERIOUSLY outweigh the people who will actually try like hell to get another job.

I'm not at all implying all or most people take advantage.  I'm not even really bitching about the small number of people who do.  Cheesy  But I do think there is a trend happening in this country where parents are raising lazy and entitled children who turn into lazy and entitled adults and I believe that's what we're seeing here--'hey, it's not MY fault I lost my job, someone better hook me up with some dough'.

Ahh, the "Bailout Syndrome" - learning from the laziest, most entitled spoiled brats on God's green earth - Wall St. It would be funny if it wasn't sick.  no

ITA Kissy. There are a lot of folks in our area who play the system and suck the life out of it in more ways then one. And they don't think twice about doing so.

But on the other hand, there are folks like my brother's wife - who was laid off <permanently> the 1st week she came back from maternity leave. The entire time she collected unemployment, she job hunted & thankfully is starting her new job this week. I'm not sure what they would have done without that money for supplemental income.

That's me, right there. I got laid off permanently THE DAY I got back from maternity leave with T. We went from me bringing in $63K a year to me bringing in zipadedoodah on top of massive adoption bills. Damn straight I took unemployment. I also got a part time job as a housekeeper while I was between adjuncting jobs, and then found a way to make the adjuncting more permanent. But 10 years later I still have no benefits, no summer pay, and a fraction of my previous salary. We manage with a lot of sacrifice and careful budget balancing. But unemployment truly helped us over a bad patch without us having to go too far into credit card debt.

For me, poor people (truly poor people) scamming the system is less annoying than really rich people hiring every lawyer and accountant in the nation to get out of having to pay taxes. Don't quite get why its ok to kick someone whose down, but ask the wealthy to cough up - the horrors. Clearly, it would be preferrable if everyone played by the rules...

Either way, rich or poor, if you're playing the system you're in the wrong.  And karma is a bitch.

hmmm...maybe the real reason for not pushing health care reform is so that life expectancy would go down...

when I think of all the job applications I filled out. (sigh) and I still don't feel like I tried as hard as I could have...

the fact that there are people out there that do this really upsets me. I had to FIGHT not once but EVERYTIME I've ever claimed unemployment not only to GET it but to KEEP it... and I had all the documentation in the world and all the job searches and applications... when ya think of the TREES I killed???

and all some people do is lie. It's frustrating.

boomers, especially this one, are tough, dry and grisly. You would need to stew your ghost dog for a long time, and I would suggest maybe a West Indian style curry sauce to add some much needed flavor.
