hence why I double check the backseat out of habit...just in case. It was 103 degrees in my car when I got in it with the kids this evening. Lana complained the whole mile home about how hot her carseat was. I had my windows rolled down most of the day too to let the heat escape. I can't even imagine....

It's something that we're super careful about because we're in a desert.  During the summer, it's 100o+ outside when we leave the house in the early morning.  We're careful to always take the kids out of the car first and take them in the house before anything else (groceries and whatnot).

I can understand how stories like the Mary/Juan case happens, though.  I get nervous all the time that we'll forget about C on the days we take her to school.  It's a big part of the reason we don't take her, though, when we have to drive in separately.

Yup. When lil  man is with me I send him to the door with the keys to unlock the house while I unhook the girls. Daycare too. Lil man comes around to the other side of the car to hold Lil bit's hand while I wrestle Tid bit's car seat out, then we all walk in together. When he's not with me I unload Tid Bit first, then get lil bit out...I've made this such a habit that I actually open the back door to get the girls even when they aren't with me lol...maybe I have the opposite problem? my routine of getting children out of the car is so rigid that I'm more likely to leave Tid bit on the porch while I get lil bit in her seat than I am to leave her in the car???

I'm more likely to leave eggs in my back seat for 3 days...  Lips Sealed

*sniff* *sniff* *sniff* Gah, when was the last time you took a bath dude?  Lips Sealed

Embarrassed

Then, to make matters worse, I dumped them in the trash can in front of hubby's work.

I just did the same thing! But I didn't dump them in the trash in front of your husbands office. But I would have if I knew where he worked. And was in Arizona. :frog:

Well, it is better than stinking up your own trash with them.  Wink  That's where we discovered them, so that's where they ended up.  Cheesy

It's great that we all have routines of getting the children out of the car first and always checking the backseat.  The sad thing that I remember happening last year is when a woman broke her routine.

(High school principal/new mom decided to stop for donuts on the way to daycare/work on the first day of school.  Then, she also forgot the daycare part.)

OK, now I'm afraid to let dh take the kids anywhere.

Yes, that mom was on Oprah!!! Before hearing her story I was all like "What kinda mom does this? How could you ever do this?" I took the time to listen to her and her story and it was heartbreaking. I then realized that this shit can happen to anyone. Hence why I always check, recheck, and check again if need be the car seat. You just never know.

I think most of y'all know how I feel about this.  I will never accept that there is a reasonable explanation for these things to happen, ever.  Just like I would never accept it an 'accident' to use vodka in place of water to mix a babies bottle.

If one is that over consumed with their routine then they're probably doing too much and need to slow it down--a lot.
