I think it's awesome.  No doubt flight attendants are treated like slaves, I hope this wakes some folks up.  Nobody should be treated badly.

yeah...I'm on the why make this guy a hero side...he obviously lost it and fortunately he didnt act out by shooting people etc...I do think he still did some damage by using a public system to curse out the rude passenger...I might tolerate that kind of language but it's a different story if my children are around...

Meh, I just don't concern myself with whether Ryan will hear bad language.  I look at it this way, that guy had the right to be respected for his position and he was not only disrespected but was physically injured because of that behavior.  Should he have cursed over the system, not really but his actions are far less serious, IMO, than what happened to him.

when you say what happened to him you mean the "injury"?

I guess I would be on his side until he started yelling, grabbed a beer then used the emergency exit?  WTF?

curse the person directly, no need to be announced...IMO he wanted the attention and sure enough he's getting it...

most jobs are service providing and there are "rude" customers all the time so I dont get why people/news label him as a hero...a hero to me are those people who maintain their professionalism in unpleasant situations...I think it's sad that he's getting so much recognition for displaying bad behavior...

I dont like it when my 5 yr old throws a tantrum in public...I dont think it's acceptable for a grown adult to do so either...

I don't see it as him throwing a tantrum.  I think 20 years of being shit on just got the best of him-the straw that broke the camels back.  It could happen to any of us and I guess I'm glad to see he did something that hopefully will make folks who fly think twice about their behavior.  I'm also glad ALL he did was throw out some curse words and dramatically exit the plane, lol!

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree... Grin  I really hope he gets a reasonable punishment for his actions though...I dont think he should go to jail but his actions should not be tolerated whether in a plane or not...I also think that it is a double standard - there are rude flight attendants as well (and in this case I would put him in this category)

I'm not concerned about the cursing or the beer or the tantrum, but opening those emergency exits and slides unnecessarily are a felony for a reason.  It's dangerous to the many people working as ground crew.  He could've seriously hurt or even killed someone and that moves what he did from understandable to disturbing.  He knew the risks of opening that slide and didn't care.  I voted zero, he might as well have taken a gun and shot it into the air.  Sure he wouldn't have been aiming directly at someone, but stray bullets are just as dangerous.

yeah, we all have different views on what we are sensitive to...I guess I'm a bit wary of using profanities in work place/professional settings...our company has a policy and employees can get reprimanded...there was an instance an employee lost their control and dropped an f-bomb in front of a client...he was terminated at the end of the day...

Here's the deal.

How many other planes were held up and flights delayed due to his outburst?  I don't think the other passengers, flight attendants, staff, and pilots on the many, many planes stuck on the tarmac think he's a hero.  Because he got pissed off over something and had to be a douche bag about it, hundreds of other people not even remotely involved in the situation were affected.  What if it were you on the plane?  Going to the funeral of a loved one?  Going on a much-needed vacation that you'd scrimped and pinched and saved up for and now it's been compromised?  Being on a flight with your infant/toddler children, who can be a challenge on a flight in the first place let alone a sizable delay?

I doubt they think he is a hero at all.

How many times have inconsiderate passengers held up flights?

True.  But we don't call them heroes either.

Right, but passengers do this all. the. time with NO consideration for others.  This situation with the flight attendant has happened once.

All I'm saying is if you kick a sleeping a dog long enough eventually he'll wake up and bite you.  I just think it's about time a flight attendant stood up for himself.  Could he have gone about it a better way?  Sure.  Could it have been worse?  Absolutely.  I just hope it's a wake up call.

Kissy, you're right in that he had taken too much abuse for too long. When flying to the US I will take extra care not to fly on a US carrier because the experience is so much worse.

I find it funny, and I get why he did it, but what if a teacher or a cop or a day care worker pulled a stunt like that? Not cool right? What he did was not cool.

That having been said, and my "zero" vote notwithstanding, I do admire his "son't gonna take it" exit strategy.

according to the news tonight the guy was an absolute dick to the entirity of the plane the whole flight, and went off when asked a simple question, the injury was the result of a passenger catching his head with the overhead compartment (apparently an accident) and over 70% of the passengers have been interviewed...every single one of them had the same story...the guy was an asshole who lost his temper for no known reason.  Shocked

I have no opinion. I lost my temper on my boss tuesday night too...guess what? I ended up quitting without running out of the daycare swigging my wine and shooting the finger.  who cares???
