I don't like forced merriment. I don't like Valentines Day, and I especially don't like New Years, other than the ten minutes of best wishes at midnight. We are having another couple over for dinner, who will be moving on to a "real" party. My wife will want to wander up the street at 11:30 to kiss her friends at our local bar. S'pose I'll have to go with her, just to make sure she doesn't kiss any toads. Mmm, I'll have the extra special cranberry and soda please, and barkeep, why are all these drunk people here?

If we could walk safely somewhere we might consider it, or else go to a party in a hotel.  But I simply refuse to drive to or from anywhere on New Years Eve.  Plus, I'll probably be in bed before 10pm.  :study:

We are having 2 to 4 families over at our house for game night and supper.  They are all from our Sunday school class, so their is no alcohol involved merriment here.

I don't drive any where on New Year's Eve.  I don't like being around a bunch of drunk people either.  It holds zero appeal to me.

I like the last one a lot...never thought of doing that...

NYE was a lot of fun as a kid...during college days, it was no different from any other night except that the clubs are more packed and be on a guest list unless you want to pay an arm and a leg...

before kids, I actually started to prefer staying in with a few friends...dinner, card games, and just shooting the breeze...nowadays, everyone is asleep by 10PM and I set an alarm right before midnight just to do some superstitious rituals... Grin

sort of the first and last . Our community celebrations include a countdown and fireworks display at 9 pm , so we took the kids out to a city park/ beach front after dinner and then walked over to the boardwalk to listen to music and watch fireworks . took abut 40 minutes for a normally 10 minute drive to get home , but all cool. As familys and seniors leave the city area the party people are heading in. As it is a bit breezy the gals in little summery dresses heading to clubs provide a bit of light entertainment/ eye candy.
Then Brad went out to a "Brew fest" with his brother and friends . He only found out about a job cancellation the day before NYE and has not had NYE off work in a few years , so was too late to organise to do anything late together and kid friendly and i was happy for him to get a bit of a groove on with his friends . the 9 pm kid thing was enough fun for me :)
once i tidied a bit here was happy to have time on own with a couple of glasses of bubbly and internet . has been my tradition for 10 yrs now to sneak in and give sleeping kids (my own )a midnight kiss .
I thanked the Goddess that after we got home and carried sleeping tots in , AF arrived , she waited through the busy parks , public toilet cues and all that traffic , with hardly a cramp until i was comfortably in my own home .
Forecast weather is about 40.C here(104) , so i predict some sore heads and sick people sweating out the beer today.

We're staying in and crashing before midnight.  It was a workday and one looooooooooooooong ass week.   58

Tomorrow we're doing our normal Saturday thing though: 1 or 2 drinks and some video games.

We went to a "kid friendly" party at my inlaws...

lil man ran around popping fire works with other older children

tid bit and nephy poo crashed

husband got shit tanked

i chased 2 year old around all night (away from fire works, away from bonfire...out of rain and into workshop....away from food table...)

and spent the last hour of 2010 crying with her because it seems she has developed a goddamn ear infection- so i went inside and held her and begged her to fall asleep...which didn't work.

went back outside at five till. sat around until about 10 after when my husband put down the rifle he was blasting into the air long enough to remember I was AT the party and kiss me...

then I started loading heathens and our shit and got ready to come home.

fuckin YAY. HNY.

Aw wires, I'm sorry it ended (or began since it is the start to a new year) that way.

I started the night thinking we had company coming over. One couple was too sick. The other was supposed to come after dinner. Dinner ended at 10pm for them which was not expected and by then after sitting here all night bored and tired I told them they might as well stay where they are. It sucks but hey, I brought in the New Year realizing once again that if I wait and rely on others to do anything I'll be waiting a fucking long time. My resolution? Do what I want, when I want. Alone! Much easier than always trying to make plans that get canceled. Fuck that shit.

Happy New Year all! Health and Happiness for everyone!  Kiss

See we're like that too. That's why the whole "Is it ok to come over now" when it's 10pm thing happened I was like "Whaaa?" Call me an old fuddy duddy but I was up early yesterday (as I am all days) and I worked half a day, and then had to deal with a toddler who as of late has been a handful. I'm tired. 10pm is too late to get any party started.
